2021: Wrap Up!

As always the Netball year was full of wins, losses, lessons and achievements. As a club, we have a lot to be proud of. Here is our 2021 wrap up.

Sapphire Series

Erin Byrnes and Meegan Snell were at the helm again for 2021 and with only 3 returning players from the 2020 team, promoting Ruby players and welcoming newcomers to the club, the girls had to create new connections quickly. With a much improved season, the team finished strong in the second half, winning 4 of their 7 remaining games and a final standing of 6th place.  A stand-out performance against top 4 team, USC Thunder defeating them by 4 goals. Showcasing the improvement they made from game 1 against USC Thunder where they lost by 20 goals.

Ruby Series

The Ruby team was led by Head Coach, Joeanne Hope and Assistant Coach Justin Wise. Joeanne and Justin, set in place quickly the style of play and culture that was expected within the group. The team were able to implement and put together consistent performances each week. Resulting in a third straight grand final appearance. Although the team weren’t able to go three in a row of winning the title, going down to the Brisbane North Cougars. Making the Grand Final three years in a row is no easy feat. Led by long time Tigers, Alexia Baker, Maddie Ryan and Emily Gage, they were able to provide the experience the team needed. With many great performances over the year, a stand out performance was in the preliminary final against USQ Jets, winning by 1 in the final minutes of the game after being down by five goals.

Nissan State Titles

This year we had the opportunity of entering three teams into the Nissan State Titles competition held in September.
18’s
We welcomed back,  Head Coach Amanda Kelly to the Tigers family to take the reigns, with the assistance of Alison Gage. The team had strong performances in the rounds, getting them into the final 8 where they went down in the 7th v 8th playoff by a couple of goals. With many girls representing the Tigers for the first time, they should all be very proud of how they competed over the 3 days.
